The Comox Valley pickleball community edge closer to getting much needed dedicated outdoor courts. Here's an update from the newly elected President of the Comox Valley Pickleball Association, Rick Folk:
"The Comox Valley Pickleball Association Board of Directors authorized the signing of a letter of intent with the Courtenay Rotary Club on October 13. In the letter, we committed to providing a cash or in-kind contribution in the amount of $20,000.00 toward the overall cost of the installation of six regulation sized pickleball courts at the Highland Park playing fields in Comox. The Courtenay Rotary Club will be the lead organization in this joint venture between the CVPA, the Town of Comox, and other community partners. We intend to commence the project in early 2018 and have court complex completely finished by June 30, 2018.
We are very excited about the project and have struck a Project Committee to head the CVPA in the planning, construction, and operation of the new facility. If CVPA members wish to make comments or suggestions on this project, we ask that you please direct your queries to one of our CVPA Board members, and refrain from contacting the Courtenay Rotary Club or Town of Comox directly.
In the near future, we will be announcing fund-raising initiatives. We look forward to working with Comox Valley Pickleball Association members to fulfill our obligation toward our much needed, new, dedicated courts!
As well, we are hoping to increase our membership base. Please encourage friends and relatives to become members of the CVPA. We will also be announcing a new membership initiative in the very near future. A newsletter will be circulated as soon as membership options are finalized."
