New Courts For Victoria

24/4/2022

From Connie McCann, President of the Victoria Regional Pickleball Association:
"Goodacre Lake Pickleball Courts
Coming very soon to Beacon Hill Park will be 2 or 3 dedicated pickleball courts, located on the east side of Goodacre Lake. The site was known as the Arbutus Way parking lot, it is closer to Douglas than Cook Street and not far from the Children’s playground. This innovative pilot project was brought about through the joint efforts of the City of Victoria Staff and Council who actively listened to the pickleball community and the tireless efforts of both the community groups who played at Todd Park and the VRPA.

A group of players met to walk and review the site. In attendance were Michael McPherson, who created the pickleball petition, from James Bay Pickleball Club and Luke Penseney from the MEETUP.com 55+ group of players, me and Vice President, Beverly De Haitre. We met on site with Victoria Recreation staff members, Jeff Brehaut and Josh Taylor. An unused paved parking area will soon be transformed into dedicated courts in one of the most beautiful urban retreats in our Province.

The City will clean the surface, paint on the lines and will provide temporary fencing to keep the balls out of the lake. VRPA will contribute nets and a lock box if needed to store equipment. Details will be forthcoming, but the courts will be up and operating very soon.

VRPA is delighted that this summer we can direct folks to Beacon Hill Park for pickleball play. The Association applauds and thanks the City, Staff and Council, for actively listening, thinking outside the box and responding to the needs of our growing sport."
