Oceanside Pickleball Club located in Parksville has recently received training in CPR and Automated External Defibrillation. 24 members gathered at Parksville Community Centre to review Sudden Cardiac Arrest response procedures using a training defibrillator, as well as manikins and pocket masks. The emphasis was on a team approach using club members to rotate thru chest compressions, ventilations with pocket mask or bag valve mask, and operating the defibrillator.
Oceanside club has recently purchased its own defibrillator as well as a training unit, a CPR manikin, and a minor wound & trauma kit located at courtside.
Art Cochrane, Advanced Care Paramedic (retired) and Dr Jo Winner (retired) conducted this non-certified orientation program, the first of its kind on Vancouver Island.
Any club interested in having similar training please contact Art Cochrane at arthc@telus.net.
